Make a Crafty Christmas Tree

Crafting a Christmas tree from scraps or recycled paper, old wrapping paper or newspaper is eco-friendly because it reduces waste and helps protect the environment.

By using materials that would otherwise be thrown away, you’re giving them a new life and keeping them out of landfills. Additionally, making your own Christmas tree means that you don’t have to buy a plastic or real tree that will eventually be discarded after the holiday season is over. This helps reduce the environmental impact of Christmas trees and promotes sustainability.

  1. Choose your materials: You can use any type of paper or fabric you like, but it’s best to choose materials that are easy to work with and that will hold their shape. Some good options include cardstock, felt, and cotton. Gather together old beads, jewelry that's no longer worn, wood blocks no longer played with etc An egg carton cut into individual segments and those segments stacked upside down onto each other can form the trunk of a Christmas Tree. Consider collecting plastic bottletops and bread tags to use as bases for paper baubles and to clip decorations to the tree. Simple objects such as paper plates, muffin or pattycake cases, paper doilies etc can speed up the process. Other useful items are buttons and ribbons, old wrapping paper off-cuts, old Christmas cards (which also make great gift-tags).
  2. Create your plan based on available material.: You can create your own design or find one online. There are many free patterns available.
  3. Cut out your pieces: Once you have a design in mind, start cutting out the pieces you need for your Christmas tree.
  4. Glue, tape, staple or sew the pieces together.
  5. Add decorations: Once your tree is complete, it’s time to add some decorations! You can use anything you like, such as beads, sequins, or ribbon. To make the Christmas tree more colorful, you can add some paint or glitter  to the cardboard and paper. You can also use yarn and make pom poms to decorate the tree.
  6. Display your tree: Finally, display your beautiful new Christmas tree in a prominent place in your home where everyone can enjoy it!
