Etiko (meaning "ethical" - following moral principles) is a brand that specialises in Fair Trade and Sustainable goods including sports balls. They were the first non-food brand to gain fairtrade certification (Australia/New Zealand/Pacific region) and first producers of an eco-friendly range of footwear (Australia/New Zealand/Pacific region).
Essentially Etiko products from Eco at Home mean that you and your kids can enjoy sport without worrying about whether the equipment you're using had negative effects on those who made it! Making football, rugby, volleyball etc. even more fun and fair!
What does Fair Trade mean?
If a product is fair trade certified, it means that the company who produced it pays sustainable prices (never lower than the market price) to workers. This means that employees have more power, and have a level of pay that allows them to improve their lives.
The price that ESP P/L (the company behind the Etiko range) pays for the Etiko sports balls and sneakers includes a fair-trade premium of 20% (though the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation only requires it to be 15%). This premium is used for improvement of the socio-economic situation of the workers, their families and communities.
